Essay on A visit to Historical place- Taj Mahal

Introduction- I had often heard the praise of the Taj Mahal from my friends, so I had keen desire to see it. Last year, on the twenty first October I went to Agra to attend the marriage party of my brother. It was my first visit to Agra. How could I resist the temptations of the Taj Mahal of whose beauty and charm I had been hearing so much since my childhood? I saw the Taj Mahal on the night of Sharad Poornima. On the night of Sharad Poornima, its beauty was at its peak as the Taj looks very beautiful in the moonlight.

Construction of the Taj— The Taj Mahal was built by the Mughal Emperor Shahjahan. He built it in the memory of his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal. It is wonderful and world famous monument. It is said that it took twenty two years to be built, and that twenty thousand workers were employed to build it.

Visit to the Taj- Last year, I visited the Taj Mahal with my friends in the month of october. We entered the huge red gateway and saw the beautiful white Taj Mahal some distance away from us. The green, well-kept lawns on both sides of the path leading to the monument also looked very lovely.

There were four spiral minarets on the four corners of the Taj. Beautiful flowers and birds were carved into the white marble. The tombs of Shah Jahan and Mumtaj Mahal were situated in the lower portion.

Inside story- We went inside, and saw the marble tomb. It was all decorated with precious and beautifully carved stones. There we thought of the queen whose body lied buried in this grave and the great love of the king who had constructed such lovely memorial to make her immortal. The actual graves of Mumtaz Mahal and Shah Jahan are not decorated as the Muslim tradition does not allow any sort of showiness or decoration on the graves. Hence the cenotaph of Mumtaz Mahal is engraved with verses from the Holy Quran that promise God's mercy and forgiveness. The sides of the tomb have the ninety nine beautiful names of Allah in the form of calligraphy. The Taj Mahal does not only dazzles from outside, it also looks fabulous from inside.

Taj in the full moon- Soon it was full moon. We enjoyed the wonderful sight of the Taj in the light of the full moon. It looked like a building of pearls or a palace made of silver. So bright and tender it was that it seemed to be made of white clouds. The gleaming white marble, the blank shadow the soft moonlight, the perfect silence despite the fact that there were thousands of visitors and the sweet scented garden, all made it a sight never to be forgotten.

Conclusion- No photograph, no picture, no portrait can describe its full splendor and brilliance. One must see it to appreciate it fully. One who visits the Taj in moonlight can no longer doubt that the Taj Mahal is the most beautiful and splendid building on the earth
